Switching the protocol from HTTP to SOCKS5
For datacenter proxies:
Dashboard → “Datacenter” → arrow near the port → select → “Get”
The port may change as a result. For residential and mobile proxies the protocol is set when you create the proxy list.
Windows 10 and 11
- Press Win + I and follow the path:
“Network & Internet” → “Proxy”
- Turn on “Use a proxy server” and enter the IP and port.
- Click Save and check the result on MaxMind.
Chrome and Edge use the system settings, Firefox has its own. For SOCKS5 use Proxifier.
macOS
- Press Cmd + Space, type “proxy” and follow the path:
Network → your connection → “Details” → “Proxies”
- Enable the protocol you need, enter the server and port. Click OK, then Apply.
- Check the result on MaxMind.
macOS supports SOCKS5 natively — no third-party software required.
iPhone and iPad
- Follow the path:
“Settings” → Wi-Fi → the (i) icon next to the network → “Configure Proxy” → “Manual”
- Enter the server, port, login and password, then go back.
- Check the result on MaxMind.
The setting is tied to a specific Wi-Fi network. For LTE and 5G you'll need Shadowrocket or Surge.
Android
- Follow the path:
“Settings” → Wi-Fi → ⚙ → “Advanced” → “Proxy” → “Manual”
- Enter the hostname and port, then tap Save.
- Check the result on MaxMind.
Android has no native support for proxy authentication — use the Drony app.
General tips
- System-wide SOCKS5 without third-party software is only available on macOS.
- Firefox always uses its own proxy settings rather than the system ones.
- After you disable the proxy, restore the original settings, otherwise the connection will stop working.
